Neville asked: "Who (Vieira or Keane) has more caps for his country?" Vieira, Keane and Wright all chose Vieira without hesitation.
"It's an easy one," Vieira said. "You've played more big games," Keane said. Vieira added: "And I've never quit the national team." This elicited laughter from the crowd. Keane himself smiled helplessly.
Carragher said: "I can't even say it." Neville said, "I just stopped and waited for someone to say that."
Keane was dropped from the 2002 World Cup after a dispute with then-manager Mick McCarthy. He then announced his retirement from the national team, citing age and injuries that prevented him from splitting his time between club and country. It was not until 2004 that Keane returned to the national team.
