New Manchester United signing Diego Ugarte has revealed he would be honoured to follow in the footsteps of Edinson Cavani and Diego Forlan, and has also revealed he has discussed joining the club with recently departed Andrea Pelisteri.

"It feels great," Ugarte told the club's media. "Of course, Diego Forlan and Edinson Cavani have played here and they are both great players."

"I was lucky to play alongside Cavani, he's a really top player. So, yes, they have played at a club with such a long history and I am now going to play here, which makes me very excited."

Ugarte is only the fifth Uruguayan player to sign in United's nearly 150-year history, having joined the club in the final moments of the summer transfer window.

After failing to register in time to make his debut against Liverpool at the weekend, United's new No25 was officially unveiled at the Theatre of Dreams ahead of the match.

"I talked a lot with Facundo," Ugarte said. "He told me everything, how incredible the atmosphere is at Old Trafford on a match day, how incredible the atmosphere is."

"So... Yes, I'm really excited."
