Manchester City will miss out on the Premier League title this season after a new supercomputer predicted their results in the absence of Rodri, The Mirror reported.
Rodri tore his anterior cruciate ligament against Arsenal on Sunday and could be out for the rest of the season in a major headache for coach Pep Guardiola. Guardiola has a tough task ahead of him to win the title again, and Arsenal will use the opportunity to make another push for the title.
City's record in Rodri's absence has been poor, with Guardiola's side winning just 64 per cent of the 45 games in which he has been absent since 2019. They have dropped 23 points in 21 Premier League games and their average has plummeted from 2.37 to 1.86. In contrast, of the 260 games Rodri has played, City have won 74 per cent, drawn 15 per cent and lost 11 per cent.
Based on their record in Rodri's absence, City are expected to finish the season with 80 points, but that is unlikely to lead them to the title, the last team to finish with that score was Manchester United in 2010/2011.
Arsenal's recent results have also made it unlikely that City could overtake them for the title, with Arsenal finishing with 84 points two seasons ago and finishing second last season with 89. City, meanwhile, won their fourth consecutive title last season with 91 points and the last time they finished with 80 points or less was in 2016/17, when they took 78 points in Guardiola's first season in charge.
That point would only be enough for them to finish third and Chelsea would go on to win the league with 93 points. Eighty points, though, might be enough for them to finish in the top four, with Aston Villa only scoring 68 points last season.
