"It's easier to sack one coach than 15 players. I've spoken to Ten Hag and apologised to him,' Bruno Fernandes revealed at his press conference following Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford. "Despite my efforts to help him, I am still disappointed that he was fired."
In the early morning of November 4 (Beijing time), in the 10th round of the game, Fernandes scored a penalty kick in the 70th minute, breaking his goal drought in the Premier League this season. The Portuguese midfielder's declining goalscoring ability was part of the reason Ten Hag was sacked.
Fernandes added: "I didn't score, we didn't score and when the coach was sacked, I felt responsible. "Whenever you see a coach leave, you have to take part of the blame because the team is not doing well," stressed the 'Red Devils' captain.
In the two games since Ten Hag's sacking, Manchester United's attacking side has shown signs of recovery. The home side of Old Trafford also thrashed Leicester City 5-2 in the Carabao Cup last-16 tie before Bruno scored his first Premier League goal of the season, with Bruno Fernandes himself netting twice.
A 1-1 draw with Chelsea failed to lift the Reds up the table, as they remain in the bottom half of the table with 12 points, while Chelsea have pushed Arsenal out of the top four with 18 points and a better goal difference (8-6).
