On September 18, the BBC reported that in the third round of the Carling Cup, Championship side Preston beat Fulham of the Premier League 16-15 on penalties.
Preston's victory set the record for the longest penalty shootout in League Cup history, breaking the previous record set by Derby County and Carlisle in 2016, when the penalty shootout was 14-13.
