Manchester United on Wednesday named a squad of 23 players for the trip to Lyon, with 19-year-old England midfielder Coby Menor travelling to France after his return from injury, but central defenders David Dricht and Eden Haven missed out. Meno took part in United's normal training session on Wednesday morning after missing two months with a muscle injury that has kept him out of 10 games since the 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Leicester City on February 7.
Ruben Amorim said on Friday that his fitness would be assessed ahead of the Manchester City Derby, but he was not included in the squad. However, after a full training session before the Europa League, the medical team assessed his fitness to be good enough to be included in the squad. In training, he cut off the pigtails that he had left this season, and the muscles seemed stronger than in the past, and the image took on a new look.
Menor is expected to push for a return to action as a substitute, but central defenders David Dricht and Michael Haven continue to be absent. Among them, Dricht played the whole game against Nottingham Forest last week, but missed the game against Manchester City because of an ankle injury. Haven suffered a serious injury against Leicester City before the international break and has yet to return to normal training.
Winger Diogu Darlow joined Amorim in the pre-match press conference, which by convention means he will definitely start, so that another right-back Mazzravi could compete with Maguire, Lindelof and Lenny Yoro for the starting position in the 343 formation in the third centre of defence, Luke Shaw could also play the role of backup.
Elsewhere, Jonny Evans and Toby Collier are out of the squad, with Collier the latest to be injured. Amorim called up youngsters Jaydan Kamason, Harry Amass and Jack Moorhouse, while 17-year-old Danish centre Cheeto Obi was not registered with the Europa League and was ineligible for the season.
