On 17 October 2024, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed that the Catalan side received an offer worth €250 million in the 2024 summer transfer window for young talent Lamine Yamal.
"We did receive an offer of 250 million euros, but we rejected it," Laporta said in an interview with RAC1. "Yamal is the future of the team and we will not let him go easily." He also added that the club's financial position was improving significantly. "Today, we are proud to say that Barcelona has achieved positive commercial results with an annual profit of €12 million, the first time this has been achieved since 2017. The club's income exceeded its expenditure, with revenue growing by 41 per cent while costs were reduced by 22 per cent."
In September, Yamal's agent Andy Bara revealed that Paris Saint-Germain were the team willing to bid 250 million euros for the Barcelona starlet. "Barcelona did turn down a huge offer from Paris Saint-Germain a few months ago for Lamine Yamal, a deal worth around 250 million euros." "Bala said.
The record transfer fee in world football is still held by Neymar, who paid €222 million when he moved from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2017. Paris Saint-Germain clearly saw great potential in Yamal and were willing to break that record by paying a hefty transfer fee for the 2007 youngster.
Some sources in France even claimed that PSG had made an offer of €250 million long before the start of Euro 2024. Laporta has made it clear that Barcelona will do everything they can to keep Yamal and avoid a repeat of the 2017 Neymar transfer.
Yamal's contract with Barcelona runs until 2028 and has a release clause of up to €1 billion. This shows that Barcelona have full confidence and security in the career of this young talent in the coming years.
