According to Portuguese media reports, Portugal Sport is close to announcing the dismissal of coach Joao Pereira, although he has not been a long replacement for Ruben Amorim.
Following Amorim's move to Manchester United, Sporting Portugal appointed reserve team coach Joao Pereira as first-team coach on 11 November, however, just a month later, due to the team's poor results, Pereira quickly lost the trust of the club.
The Record newspaper reported that the decision came after a series of disappointing performances for Portuguese sport, including a 5-1 drubbing at Arsenal and a 2-1 defeat at Brugge in the Champions League. In the domestic league, Sporting Portugal has recorded just one win in its last four matches.
Transfer expert Romano also said the Portuguese sport's management had already decided Pereira's fate and he would no longer be in his role as head coach ahead of the team's crucial match against Benfica on December 30.
Amorim played at Sporting Portugal for more than four years and helped Portuguese win their first league title in more than 20 years. Before his departure, Portuguese sports had enjoyed an 11-game winning streak. Today, Portuguese sport has fallen to second place in the league table.
Amorim, meanwhile, got off to a difficult start at United. Although he led the 'Red Devils' to victory over Manchester City in the Manchester Derby, the start to the Premier League has been less than ideal, with just one win in the first four rounds, and United's recent 3-0 defeat at Bournemouth has temporarily dented the team's hopes of revival.
