Aston Villa beat Swiss side Bern Youngsters 3-0 in the first round of the Champions League, with Thieremans, Jacob Ramsey and Amadou Onana scoring goals to leave them fourth in the table after the first round.
Liverpool became only the second Premier League side to win the first round of the Champions League, coming from behind to beat Serie A giants AC Milan 3-1 on the road, with the goals of Konath, Van Dijk and Sobosloy leaving them seventh in the table.
Manchester City, who drew 0-0 at home to Inter Milan in the 2022-23 Champions League final, are in 18th place.
Arsenal also managed only a 0-0 draw, thanks to Davy Raya's superb penalty save as they drew away to last season's Europa League winners Atalanta and are now in 21st place.
